New Era Foundation is a collective of schools (nursery, primary and two secondary schools) in Ntcheu, Malawi, founded in 1993 and managed by Mr and Mrs Jesman and their children.

Our mission is to provide twenty-first century holistic education to a standard that is competitive on a global scale. Like the late Educationist, Sir Ken Robinson, we firmly believe that creativity and IT literacy are the key skills of our time. In a world where information is readily available, it is incumbent upon us to equip our students with the ability to think imaginatively in order to thrive in an eminently hyper-technological environment.

OUR CORE VALUES ARE

Umunthu - Compassion

Innovation

Empowering  Teachers with ICT

At least 10% of the syllabus coverage at New Era Schools is done on the computer. This is important because for many students in Malawi (or Africa), it is difficult to understand the narrative and historical context of the syllabus content--much of which is eurocentric in nature. A child from a rural village will find it harder to imagine Macbeth than one who has castles or museums within their envirnment and culture. Through the use of computers, videos, animations, and even other teacher's explainations, students and treachers are better able to grasp foreign and difficult concepts in context.

Through our partner, Ubuntu, we have enlisted in a Digital Transformation for Schools (DTfS) initiative, supported by the Mastercard Foundation. Their objective is to pioneer innovative strategies to support underprivileged schools in the integration of technology into their systems. New Era School is among the first five schools on the African continent to trial this initiative by Ubuntu. Our teachers use their chatbot UTISHA to learn digital practices.

10/09/22 INTRODUCING UBUNTU

We would like to introduce Mr David Marriot and Mr Andy Liles. David is the co-founder of Africa’s leading contextualised framework for school development, Ubuntu. The organisation helps schools deliver meaningful education to their students by providing the tools needed to transform practices and prepare students for a global future. One of these tools is USAWA, which helps schools develop robust ethos, vision, models of learning and school organisation. Through this particular programme, Mr Andy Liles will be working closely with New Era Schools, through the Director of the school Mr. Jesman to help NES reach its academic targets. We are very excited about this opportunity / partnernship and we will be sure to keep you informed of our progress.
