To Be More, Do More!

Our Acknowledgement

The first term of 2019/2020 has begun with a wave of new, eager students and passionate staff who are keen to share their knowledge and impart new regulations.

New Era is committed to excellence, which is why we are very proud to commend one of our students, Jamal Likonde. Why so early in the term? As Henry Ford had famously said, “Most people get ahead during the time that others waste.’’

Jamal— who has just graduated to standard 8—hasn’t been wasting time this summer. He attended extra classes with an aim to excel at his Primary School Leaving Certificate Examination (PSLCE). He is an astute student, who has always been in the top 5 of his previous classes. We believe in him and wish to commend his parents for their commitment to education.

Success of every child begins at home with parents being an example. We asked him why are studies so important to him that he would come to study when other kids are on holiday?

‘’Because I want to have a better future,’’ he said.

We want to congratulate Jamal (and his parents) on this accomplishment. We wish him a successful year. He has received a certificate and a copy of the the New York Times best selling book, Max Einstein: The Genius Experiment by James Patterson.

New Era recognises that there is a great void in the reading culture of our country, Malawi. Very few children are reading for pleasure. This is a serious problem. We need to work together with all parents to make sure those great stories which parents & guardians once enjoyed (like Adventures of Tom Sawyer or Huckleberry Finn) are passed on to the new generation. This is a plea from the school to all parents to get their wards in the library and to gift them with books. There is a whole world out there to discover! Its the only way Malawian kids will bridge the gap with the rest of the world.
